My next door neighbours Guy and Thérèse have recently had nice new PVC windows and a new front door put in.
Walking past one day I thought that their old shutters rather detracted from the whiteness of the new fittings, and stopped to offer to sand the shutters down and repaint them. Thérèse told me that it wasn't necessary as they were coming off.
Fine, by me, did they want any help painting the house - Ouais ! they did.
By chance JJ had invited his cousin Jeremy over for the weekend so Saturday morning was given over to removing the plants etc, washing the wall down and putting a sealant on it.
The weather was reasonable for painting, dry but not too sunny. Thérèse informed me that the new paint would be a grey stone colour - however this turned out to be more of a creamy coloured stone. She had obviously looked at the word Pierre (Stone) without actually looking at the colour of the label it was written on !
She was a bit taken aback that afternoon when we started painting but she soon accepted that the house looked better cream that it would ever have done grey.
By early afternoon the work was pretty much finished with Jeremy acting as our Cinderella and cleaning up after us.
JJ's dad; Jean-Marie is going to fill in a few cracks and repair part of the wall and once that is done, if we can get a dry day we will touch up those points and paint the front of the garage.
I didn't get out of sanding though, as Peter and Sandra had two doors that they wanted done. Lovely old doors but the word Seal got used lots of times as I hit a coating of shellac under the paint. Sanding - nope, more like scraping.
They look good though and it seems I have been offered more to do by other people.
